Wood Crates for Recalled Batteries

Recall Program Case Study

Battery Recall Case Study: A large OEM approached Ameripak packaging engineers in need of a solution to ship recall lithium ion batteries for one of their EV models. The packaging needed to be UN compliant with DOT Title 49 Sec. 173.185(f) and designed for a standard pallet jack so that dealerships could easily maneuver the outbound packaging. Once at the receiving facility, the crate needed to be moved and raised using an overhead crane. Ameripak designed the crate to be accessible via both pallet jack and overhead crane option. Each crate wall was lined with XLPE foam to ensure that the crate met the requirement of being surrounded by "cushioning material that is non-combustible, electrically non-conductive, and absorbent"
